West Point
The United States Military Academy in West Point, NY is the oldest and best known of the five Federal Service Academies. Established in 1802, it has been a strategic fort, a military base and Gen Washington even moved our his command to that most crucial location to a young America's future. Eventually West Point became the premier engineering school in the country, and the training center for some of our nation's most influencial leaders. As with all successful Army programs, this institution had a mission to support the United States and develop excellence.
USMA's mission is reinforced in every aspect of the four years of a cadet's training. The Military Academy's mission is stated clearly and often...
"To educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that
each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed
to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career
of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer
in the United States Army."
This mission acomplishment is easily seen in the notable Graduates. From great leaders in politics like Colin Powell to successful business leaders like Kelly Perdew, USMA Class of 1989 and winner of the second season of "The Apprentice", West Point Grads are in the news.
This high set of standards and the ability to achieve always comes at a price! No, not the high cost of tuition you would have to pay at a high end Ivy League school or world class engineering program. In fact, tuition is free at West Point and all five US Federal Service Academies. No, the price to join the "Long Grey Line" is hard work, service, and sacrificing for something greater than self. Could West Point be your path to greater things?
