Every Applicant who passes the early screening for grades and diligently progresses through the application paperwork will be scheduled for a Free Medical Exam. The exam is required. The exam is routinely (although technically incorrect) referred to as the DoDMERB, pronounced "Dod-Murb".
The Department of Defense Medical Evaluation Review Board is the reviewing authority for all Service Academy and ROTC Medical Exams. Located at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado but includes doctors and support from all the Services. DoDMERB reviews over 50,000 applicants each year.
If you apply to more than one Service Academy and/or ROTC Program, you will only need one DoDMERB physical exam.
If your application is considered competitive and filled out as ealy as possible, you should expect the Medical Exam to be scheduled no earlier than the the July before your Senior year in High School begins. Depending on your location, you may be scheduled for an exam at a local Military Base or contracted locally at a civilian office under a contract with a company called "Concorde".
