While at this time the US Coast Guard Academy does NOT require a Congressional Nomination, there has been a Bill, submitted and passed (in Congress) that Congressional Nominations be required for US Coast Guard Academy Admissions.

  Congress passed HR 2830 in April 2008 and is awaiting Senate approval.  The Bill, which routinely authorizes Coast Guard funding, was a surprise in adding the new requirement for the US Coast Guard Academy.

  With only roughly 300 appointments available each year, competition will be particulary stiff.  Applicants would do well to review Congression Nomination proceedures and at least review common interview questions anticipated by other Federal Service Academies.
