The US Coast Guard Academy has a very physical program and like the other Federal Service Academies requires a Fitness test to be taken and scored as part of the application process.
The Coast Guard Academy has a different exam from the other Academies (and so this exam would not be interchangable with other Academy Applications). The USCGA requires a PFE, or Physical Fitness Exam which consists of 3 timed exercises.
The USCGA PHYSICAL FITNESS EXAM (PFE) elements include
- Push Ups
- Sit Ups
- 1.5 mile Run
Please do not think this difference indicates any less of a physical requirement. If anything, the USCGA is the most strict as far as fitness/ PFE/ % bodyfat. The Academy has three opportunities the first summer (starting the first day) where a Candidate will be immediately dismissed for failing a Physical Fitness Exam.
It also makes sense to give the same exam that will be required throughout your carreer, but the other Academies may just be TRYING to be as difficult as possible...
