Do you have a STUDENT applying to a Federal Service Academy?

Congratulations!

But what to do now?

The good news is that the application process is designed to test the student's organizational skills and self reliance, so you should NOT have the student hanging around asking you what to do next.  In fact, a student asking YOU what to do is a strong indicator that this is NOT the personality that will succeed.

But that does not mean you won't help him or her in a major way.  What you CAN do is point the student at the best resourses available and encourage them to NEVER QUIT.

Your other contribution is to ensure they understand the difficulty involved in attending one of the TOP TEN Engineering schools in the country.  Depending on the Academy, they can Major in everything from English to Aerospace Engineering, Arabic to History and they will STILL be graduating with an engineering degree.

An excellent profile of what will help as far as academic prep can be found here...

Service Academy Academic preparation/ Suggested school courses

Although outlined for the Naval Academy, it applies to all the Service Academies.

If you have a hardworking student of excellent moral character, the Service Academies will be interested from hearing from you both.
