The Congressional Nomination process for USMMA is possibly the most straightforward and at the same time the most misundersood part of the overall Service Academy Application Process.
As the smallest Service Academy that requires a Nomination, the rules and restrictions for Kings Point can seem confusing to many. This confusion is especially true for those who took the time to learn the Nomination rules for the Military Service Academies (USNA, USMA, USAFA).
The actual rules can be found on the link below. Some simple points for the USMMA Congressional to consider...
-The Nomination is independant of the Application to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
- Members of Congress can make up to ten nominations.
- There are no Presidential, Vice Presidential, or Service connected Nominations.
- The number of actual nominations credited to each state (Offered Appointments) is futher restricted by the Representation ratio in Congress (State size).
